Events & Scoring

The random decathlon is a 10 sport multi-event.  THE 10 SPORTS WILL BE CHOSEN RANDOMLY FROM THE FOLLOWING LIST.  ON THE FRIDAY EVENING BEFORE THE EVENT BEGINS, THE 10 SPORTS WILL BE DISCLOSED.

SCORING

The winner of each event will score 100 points for that event.  All other athletes will earn a score based on their performance in the event relative to the winner.

  • Example 1: if the winner of the 3-point shooting contest (basketball) makes 20 shots, he would earn 100 points for the event.  If the 2nd place athlete makes 18 shots, he would earn 90 points in the event (18/20 = 90%).
  • Example 2: If the winner of the 100 yard freestyle swim has a time of 1:30, he would earn 100 points for the event.  If the 2nd place swimmer has a time of 1:35, he would earn 94.5 points in the event (1-(95-90/90)).  All other athletes would also earn points relative to the winner's time of 1:30.
  • Example 3: In events that require a round robin tournament, scores will be based on a "points for" and "points against" system.  in tennis, a match will consist of 20 points played between athletes.  When one athlete reaches 20 points, his total score will be (20) - (opponent's score) and the opponent's score will be below zero for that match.
